Owned
Y’all, this one is the “my dad gambled me away and now I belong to the mafia boss” fantasy, served in under 80 pages. Nikki gets sold to cover her father’s debt, gets saved from an assault by a stranger in a hotel bar, and spends the night with him — then finds out he’s the man who owns her. Dario is possessive, brooding, and a genuinely soft single dad the second his kid walks on page, which is the dynamic that actually sticks. Fair warning: the first encounter is messy, boozy dubcon territory and the pacing gives you way more bedroom than build-up, so go in for the heat and the ownership vibes, not for slow-burn yearning. It’s a quick fix with a savage little cliffhanger — if debt bargains and touch-her-and-die energy are your thing, book two is right there.

Heads up before you start: Nikki is gambled away by her own father to settle a debt, so the whole book runs on coerced ownership — sold-woman/sexual-slavery territory with trafficking overtones. Early on she's heavily drunk (several readers suspected she'd been drugged) and is attacked by a man in a bar; the attempted rape is interrupted, but the sex that follows the same night happens while she's impaired and is straight-up dub-con — multiple reviewers flagged it as reading "very rapey." Expect mafia violence, threats, coercion and emotional manipulation throughout, plus a power imbalance baked into the entire relationship since he literally owns her and later employs her. Racism appears in the series via slurs aimed at Dario's young son at his school. No on-page harm to the child, and no cheating.
