Duplicitous
This one looks very much like a “dangerous but can’t-look-away” read. Julia Sykes is already known for edgy, emotional romance with dark, suspensey energy, so expect obsession, secrets, and a relationship that probably starts off tangled and stays that way. If you like your dark romance with stalker vibes, emotional fallout, and a little unhinged possessiveness, this is probably going to hit. The vibe is giving messy, addictive, and very much not soft.

Content Warnings
Duplicitous comes loaded with content that earns its dark stalker romance label. Stalking and cyberstalking are central — the MMC has been surveilling the FMC for years and cultivating a secret online relationship with her as a masked persona ("Bones"), making manipulation and gaslighting a core theme throughout. Julia Sykes' signature non-con, dub-con, and CNC elements are expected based on her established backlist patterns, along with sexual assault/abuse and power dynamics amplified by the professor/student setup. Kidnapping/abduction and drugging are consistent with her previous stalker titles. Choking/breath play and BDSM elements are likely given prior books. Murder, violence, and trauma/PTSD also appear in her stalker romance work. The Stockholm syndrome and toxic relationship dynamics are baked into the premise — FMC falls for the man who has been deceiving and pursuing her. Emotional and psychological abuse is inherent in the secret identity manipulation arc.
