A Court of Thorns and Roses

This book is less “dark romance” and more “gateway drug into fantasy romance with teeth” — but stick with me. Feyre gets dragged into Fae land as payment for a kill, and what starts as icy hostility with Tamlin turns into full-on forbidden-and-taboo heat, masks-and-curse intrigue included. The messier bit is Rhysand — dude drugs her and makes her dance for him for weeks, and somehow becomes half the fandom’s favorite husband later, all possessive-and-obsessive energy before it’s even “his turn.” There’s a dubcon scene with Tamlin that’s genuinely uncomfortable and worth going in eyes-open for, plus torture, captivity, and a villain who means business. It’s softer than your usual DRR pick, more romantasy-with-edge than pitch-black, but the slow burn and trial arc will still wreck you.
