Bonetide
Iris inherits a cottage on a Scottish loch, and there’s a man who swims in at night, shows up soaking wet and naked at her door, and her aunt’s parting advice is basically “don’t let him in.” That’s peak dark gothic horror-romance bait, and the publisher pulling the Haunting Adeline comparison is not a subtle move. Dub-con, blood play, breath play, and a power imbalance so stark her aunt left salt lines around the house — this one’s giving cozy-mystery-that-turns-feral energy. Go in with eyes open on the violence and the “cannibalism (of sorts)” tag (yes, really), but if you loved the slow dread-into-spice pivot of Haunting Adeline, Bonetide is shaping up to be your next one-click.

Content Warnings
Bonetide carries dub-con throughout, alongside a stark power imbalance between Iris and the stranger from the loch. Expect graphic violence and gore, on-page murder (there's an active killer in the area plus unexplained disappearances), and cannibalism — described by the author herself as "of sorts," so it's stylized rather than straightforwardly graphic. Breath play shows up as choking during intimate scenes, and there's a stalking/voyeurism thread since the love interest watches Iris's cottage from the water before ever approaching her. It's also worth noting Iris is written as autistic and living with fibromyalgia, per the author's own note, if that's relevant to sensitive readers.
